Linked Phrases Project

For this second year university project, I was tasked with creating illustrations for a series of six linked phrases. These phrases were ‘People Watch’, ‘Watch Tower’, ‘Tower Over’, ‘Overthrow’, ‘Throw Party’ and ‘Party Member.’ Due to the nature of these phrases, I concluded that the narrative behind them would be the idea of a corrupt government being conquered by its people, resulting in the formation of a new goverment.

For the first time, and in an approach that’s unique to this project, I created all of the illustrations digitally, using the Procreate app on an Apple iPad Pro. They are seen below:

Print Book

Following this, I screenprinted my illustrations and created a pamphlet-style book out of them that was sewn together with a red cross-stitch. Due to the narrative of the illustrations, I took some inspiration from  Cold War propaganda leaflets. It can be seen in the slideshow below:
